Thanks to UNDP funding, the Bakola\/Bagyeli now benefit from effective means of mitigating the effects of climate change.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GEF SMALL GRANT funding phase 7, which provided funding for projects related to mitigating the effects of climate change, was yet another opportunity for FEDEC to bring about change in the lives of the indigenous populations with whom it has worked for a long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To this end, the project entitled “Strengthening BB communities’ access to solar energy to increase their resilience to the effects of climate change”<\/strong> aims to strengthen the capacities of Bakola and Bagyeli communities on climate change mitigation mechanisms. Through this project implemented by the Association of Indigenous Peoples (ADEPA), awareness-raising on climate change was carried out by broadcasting programs on Nkuli Makeli radio, which is a radio station that broadcasts in the city of Kribi. Similarly, solar electrification systems were installed in the beneficiaries’ camps and solar kits distributed to nearly 400 people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to this initiative, many Bakola\/Bagyeli settlements, which were previously very isolated, now have electricity. Furthermore, these populations now know how to protect themselves against the effects of climate change in their environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
