About Us

The Foundation for Environment and Development in Cameroon (FEDEC) is a trust fund of Dutch law created in March 2001 and registered at the Chamber of Commerce of the Hague in the Netherlands. It enjoys a right of residence in Cameroon, granted on 26 December 2006 by a partnership protocol granting it customs and tax advantages.

The FEDEC is a provision of the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) Vol. 4 (1999) for the Pipeline project supported and sustained by the World Bank, the Government of Cameroon and the Cameroon Oil Transport Company (operator of the Pipeline). It is recognized as a public utility by presidential decree no. 363 of 16 November 2001.

Our Mission

Mandate

FEDEC's main mission is to provide long-term financial support to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development activities of local communities in Cameroon.

Intervention Zones
  1. Biodiversity conservation areas Four national parks are directly concerned by FEDEC: Campo Ma'an, Mbam et Djerem, Deng Deng and Valée du Mbéré. The forest landscape covered by FEDEC support therefore represents a surface area of around 826,607 hectares or 1/5 of the total surface area of protected areas in Cameroon.
  2. Plan for Vulnerable Indigenous Populations area This 120 km-long area is located in the Chad/Cameroon pipeline right-of-way, along the Kribi-Bipindi-Lolodorf road axis.
  3. Mobilisation of national and international resources and partnerships
  4. Granting of subsidies to organizations
  5. Monitoring and evaluation of activities
In Short
FEDEC's mission is therefore twofold :
  1. Environment :  For everything concerning the protection of biodiversity, the promotion of eco-tourism and the fight against poaching in protected areas..
  2. The social component: The social component concerns the development of local communities impacted by infrastructure projects.

JANUARY : Co-optation of the Ministry of Forests and Wildlife as a new member of the Foundation's Board of Directors.
2012
Validation of the FEDEC master plan.
2007
MARCH : Launch of the first development plan for the Mbam and Djerem National Park..
2006
DECEMBER : Signing of a partnership protocol with the Republic of Cameroon in which the Foundation for the Environment and Development in Cameroon (FEDEC) benefits from the right to a head office in Cameroon, customs and tax advantages.
2003
Start of component implementation.
2002
MAY : Effective start of activities of the Administrative Office (BAF) of FEDEC in Yaoundé.
2001

– 16th NOVEMBERSigning of Presidential Decree No. 2001/363 granting the Status of Public Utility Organization to FEDEC.

– 07th SEPTEMBER : Release by the Cameroon Oil Transportation Company (COTCO) of the funding of 3.5 million US dollars allocated to FEDEC and deposit of this sum in a blocked account belonging to FEDEC with CITIBANK New York.

– 29th MARCH : registration of FEDEC with the Chamber of Commerce in The Hague, the Netherlands, as a “trust fund” under Dutch law.

– JANUARY : FEDEC's Board of Directors is set up.
